The Best of Basketball

Here are some of the best moments from the 2005/6 basketball game:

Best High School Girls Basketball Game: Waterford vs. Marshfield (2006 WIAA State Division 1 State Semifinals Alliant Center Madison, Wisconsin)
Every once in awhile a player comes along that has a tremendous performance that catapults her into prominence among Division I college basketball teams. Waterford's Rae Lin D'Alie did just that and led her team from total obscurity to within one minute of winning a State Championship.

In this game Rael Lin hit the winning basket with a few seconds on the clock in front of a statewide audience to shock Marshfield.

Best Individual High School Girls Basketball Game Performance : Jefferson at Whitewater (February, 2006)
Probably the best game the Whippet girls played all season. If it were not for the performance of Lin Zastrow the Whippets would have pulled off the win. How many 6-2 girls do you know that bring the ball up the court, break the press, lead the team in rebounds, scoring and assists.

Best High School Boys Basketball Game: Wisconsin Dells v. Randolph (February, 2006)
OK! It was not the most meaningful game but it sure was intriguing to watch the Wisconsin Dells center JP Gavinski on our Fox Sports North channel. Randolph perennial power in Division 4 went up against then state ranked Wisconsin Dells. Randolph was down by 16 late in the thrid quarter and mounted an impressive comeback with 3's flying everywhere.

JP Gavinski looked like a veteran college player against a group of high school boys. It was hard to get a read on the player but physically he looks like he could be a force. He needs to develop some range on his jumper and still get stronger for the Big Ten wars.

Best Individual High School Boys Basketball Performance: Oshkosh West v. Madison Memorial (2006 Division 1 State Basketball Final-Kohl Center)
This game had drama, intensity and great support from the local communities. Lance Randall was trying to coach his players to a state championship. The community rallied behind the son who lost his father in the middle of a basketball game last year. West was playing the defending state champions Madison Memorial. In the emd it was all Oshkosh West but it provided a great story for those who like to see the underdog prevail (along with a great coach).
